WATCH Sharks Penguins score five goals in bonkers start to Game 5
The San Jose Sharks earned their first lead of the series on Thursday night. USATSI Even though the San Jose Sharks Jakub Vrana Jersey won Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final they entered Game 5 of the series on Thursday night having never played with a lead in the series (they won Game 3 in overtime after trailing or being tied the whole game). That changed just 1:04 into the first period when Brent Burns scored to give the Sharks an early lead. That goal is very similar to the one Joonas Donskoi scored in overtime in Game 3 and it is one that you probably want your goalie to stop. So what would the Sharks do Ilya Samsonov Jersey with that early lead? Well, they added to it le s than two minutes later when Logan Couture scored on a deflection to give them a 2-0 Alexander Alexeyev Jersey lead. Then the Penguins took their turn filling the net. With Dainius Zubrus penalized for delay of game after shooting the puck over the gla s, Evgeni Malkin scored on the resulting power play to get the Penguins on the board. Just 22 seconds after that, Pittsburgh's HBK line struck again when a Nick Bonino shot Nic Dowd Jersey that deflected off of Carl Hagelin beat Sharks goalie Martin Jones to tie the game at two. All of this happened in the first five minutes of the game. But the goal scoring was not done there. After the Penguins really seemed to turn up the pre sure they had a push around the Sharks' net that saw them hit the post behind Jones on two shots (including one shot from Phil Ke sel that hit both posts) but were unable to get the lead. After holding off that push, the Sharks were able to regain the lead on a Melker Karl son goal late in the period. Great feed from Couture to Karl son and Sharks reclaim the lead T.J.
